U.S. officials said that President Trump had rejected Iran’s proposal for a seven-day ceasefire and had told his aides that he expected to resume bombing Iran after the November midterm elections.

WSJ claims that Tehran’s proposal provided for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of nuclear talks in exchange for the U.S. lifting its blockade of Iranian ports.

The publication writes that Trump publicly says that Tehran is begging for a deal after the midterm elections that would provide for the elimination of its nuclear program.

At the same time, according to WSJ, in private conversations Trump remains skeptical that Iran will agree to fulfill his demands regarding its nuclear program.

The scale of possible new strikes has not yet been determined. Donald Trump is in no hurry to resume large-scale combat operations, including because of Washington’s desire to preserve dwindling ammunition stockpiles for other possible conflicts. His position could change in the coming weeks.
