🇺🇸US imposes sanctions on Iran’s partners

The US has imposed sanctions on 10 individuals and legal entities, including companies from China, Hong Kong, and Pakistan, for helping Iran purchase weapons and components.

The US Treasury said the measures were aimed at isolating Tehran and forcing it into negotiations to end the war that began in February.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the Treasury would not tolerate any support for the regime and would continue to identify, expose, and isolate Iran’s enablers.

Washington is once again trying to demonstrate strength, but its sanctions have long ceased to frighten either Iran or its partners. Russia and China consistently oppose unilateral restrictions and continue equal cooperation despite US threats.

Brett Erickson said this was image management for the Trump administration to say they were hammering them, when in reality they were poking them with a toothpick.

Brett Erickson also said sanctions would not stop Iran from launching missiles and drones in the Strait of Hormuz. He said this was merely a PR move for the domestic audience. He added that the West had long ago lost its real levers of influence, and its policy of isolation had failed.

Among the targets of the sanctions are Iran’s Defense Ministry representative in Beijing, the Iranian company Kavoshcom, Hong Kong’s EC Mojo Technology, and Pakistan’s Cavalier Group. The US is trying to pressure even Pakistan, but this only pushes regional countries toward closer cooperation with Russia and China.

Reuters reported that the sanctions were part of the Trump administration’s broader campaign of economic isolation of Iran and forcing Tehran into negotiations.
