🔄 Friday Insider Releases 🔄

🔵Windows 11 build 29667.1000, the Experimental (Future Platforms) channel, an optional preview update. The build includes minor general fixes, plus several targeted improvements across Windows Update, touchpad zoom, Remote Desktop, the Run dialog, taskbar reliability, networking, and Settings. It also fixes an Arm64 update failure and adds support for Emoji 17.0, including new emojis and small design refinements to existing ones. A new gamepad navigation option has been added for taskbar quick actions in Bluetooth settings. Microsoft also noted known issues affecting VMware Workstation Pro 17.6.4, including a blank window when reopening a VM and possible GSODs on devices with VMware installed.

🔵Windows 11 Insider Preview build 28120.3002 (version 26H1) , the Experimental (26H1) channel. The update brings a small set of minor fixes and general improvements rather than major new features. In Settings, Microsoft has added support for navigating the taskbar’s quick action menu in the Bluetooth section with a gamepad, making the interface more controller-friendly. The Share dialog also gets an upgrade, allowing users to pin favorite apps directly to the Share window for faster access. Alongside these changes, Microsoft noted an important known issue: some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may fail to launch and instead show the error message “The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b).” The company says it is investigating the problem and working on a fix.

🔵 Windows 11 preview build 26340.9482, the Experimental channel. For users with the “Get the latest updates” toggle on, the build adds a first-time context menu tutorial, lets you disable the context menu settings item, fixes the Send option, and makes File Explorer search from This PC faster by using the indexer. It also improves Taskbar IME icon scaling, changes the screen capture frame from yellow to red, and updates the Temporary Files page design. Security changes include broader automatic enabling of Memory Integrity Protection on compatible devices, while preserving any settings already chosen by users or IT admins. The update also fixes mouse cursor settings, desktop background persistence after reboot, and brightness control issues that affected some Insiders.

🔵 Windows 11 preview build 28020.2991, version 26H1, the Beta channel. This update mainly focuses on small fixes and refinements rather than major new features. In Settings, Microsoft has added gamepad navigation support for the quick action menu on the taskbar, specifically within the Bluetooth section, making controller-based use a bit easier. The Share dialog also gets a useful improvement: users can now pin favorite apps directly to the Share window for quicker access.

🔵 Windows 11 preview build 26220.9472, Beta channel, with a handful of reliability, design, and usability updates. Windows Spotlight on the lock screen has received internal improvements aimed at making it more reliable. Microsoft is also improving cross-device continuity: when you resume a web page from your phone and that browser is not installed on your PC, the resume card now lets you either open the page in your PC’s default browser or install the phone’s browser. In Settings, the Temporary Files page under System > Memory has gotten minor visual refinements. Fixed bugs: one affecting the mouse cursor setting and another preventing custom desktop backgrounds from persisting after reboot. File Explorer’s Home page now remembers whether sections were collapsed or expanded, helping users return to the same view more easily.

🔵Windows 11 version 26H1 preview build 28000.3079 (KB5124006) , Release Preview. The update adds new taskbar controls, including moving the bar to any screen edge, using a smaller taskbar, and expanding Taskbar Behavior options. Start menu customization is also improved with small/large layouts, renamed “Recent” sections, the ability to hide your name and profile picture, and toggles for Pinned, Recommended, and All sections. Search is cleaner and more flexible, while File Explorer’s Home page is faster and more responsive. Other improvements include updated progress bars, better sharing for work and school accounts, smoother virtual desktop switching, display and graphics fixes, improved Task Manager stability, and easier Windows setup.
The build also adds support for app updates through Windows Update, new Microsoft Store purchase features, administrator protection, container isolation, agent labeling, post-quantum cryptography, VPN resilience, Japanese input fixes, and the planned removal of WMIC from newer Windows 11 versions.
