Mozilla has announced the addition of a built-in ad blocker for Firefox on iOS. This new feature allows users to block ads and user-identification code during page loading. Unlike the adblock-rust component built into the desktop version of Firefox, Firefox for iOS uses Content Blocker technology powered by Apple’s WebKit engine. To enable the ad blocker, a new setting has been added: Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker. The feature is disabled by default.
EasyList is used as the ad-filtering list, but the ad blocker operates in a soft mode, blocking only external ads. Embedded ads displayed directly by websites and ads in search results are not blocked. The ad blocker also does not affect sponsored content displayed on the New Tab page.
