🇾🇪 Ansar Allah reportedly runs email clearance system for ships crossing the Red Sea
Yemen's Ansar Allah has set up an email-based clearance system for ships seeking safe passage through the Red Sea, the Wall Street Journal reports.
According to the report, captains submit their vessel's details and declare that the ship has no ties to the US, UK, Israel or Saudi Arabia. Ansar Allah usually replies within 24 hours, issuing a seven-day transit approval along with navigation instructions.
The system runs through Ansar Allah's Humanitarian Operations Coordination Center, which oversees traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. In August, it said the service is voluntary and free of charge. It denied reports that it planned to charge ships for passage and warned companies not to pay anyone demanding fees.
Ansar Allah declared a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia on 20 July, banning all ships from loading or unloading cargo at Saudi ports.
