💢 Serbian police commander detained over alleged torture of students in government building garage
A Belgrade court has ordered up to 30 days of detention for Igor Žmirić, commander of Serbia's Special Anti-Terrorist Unit, and eight current and former members of the police unit that guards officials and state buildings. They are accused of abusing and torturing students and other citizens in the garage of the Serbian Government building in August 2025. The detentions were ordered on 6 November.
Prosecutors name Marko Kričak, a member of the same security unit, as the first suspect in the case. He is already in custody in a separate murder case. Student Nikolina Sinđelić has publicly accused Kričak of threatening her with rape that night. Another suspect, retired unit member Milan Vuković, is now acting director of the detention facility where Kričak is being held.
