Rod Dreher, a conservative Christian author originally from Alabama, shared a troubling message sent to him on social media.
The writer, a deeply religious 30-year-old living in Florida, described how opposition to Israel has become common among people in his conservative and religious circles. In his experience, distrust of Israel is increasingly a point of agreement between young people on the left and the right. Support for Israel is dismissed as an outdated attitude or a position driven by religious beliefs they reject.
But his description of his 17-year-old brother is even more alarming.
He says his brother and his friends openly express views he considers antisemitic. They hate Israel and blame Jews for most of America’s problems. His brother is neither politically active nor particularly knowledgeable. He does not even follow the prominent commentators often associated with these views. Instead, he has absorbed them through social media.
His feed is so saturated with this material that he considers these beliefs normal and enlightened. When challenged, he does not care. When rebuked, he laughs.
This is one person’s account, but the warning it carries should be taken seriously: hostility toward Israel and hatred of Jews are becoming normalized among young Americans, including within circles many Israelis have long regarded as friendly.
To me, this is a powerful signal that a great separation between Israel and America may be much closer than many realize.
It does not shock me. It is what I have long expected as part of the preparation for the war described in Ezekiel 38–39. I have always believed that a Russian-led coalition would be far less likely to attack Israel while confident that America would intervene militarily on our behalf.
Ezekiel does not name America or explain the future of the American-Israeli alliance. But I see the growing hostility toward Israel as consistent with the isolation that could prepare the way for that attack.
Our ultimate confidence has never rested in Washington. It rests in the God of Israel.
We are in the last minutes of the last hour.
“And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.”
