💎 How TON is distancing itself from The Open Platform

⚫️ Today, TON Core developers updated the main page of dns.ton.org. The Getgems integration was removed from the interface, including links for buying domains on the secondary market. Links for renewing domains through Keeper disappeared as well.

⚫️ What makes this interesting is the timing. Just a few weeks ago, the founder of the Webdom marketplace publicly asked Durov and TON Core to add Webdom to TON DNS. The team even prepared a dedicated PR on GitHub, but TON Core ultimately went in a different direction and removed marketplace integrations altogether.

⚫️ It looks like we may be watching the ecosystem’s priorities shift after the departure of TON Foundation. Under TF, TON was heavily centered around products from The Open Platform, including Getgems and Keeper. Now, services across the ecosystem seem to be moving away from that setup.

⚫️ Wallets are another recent example. About a month ago, @wallet lost its verification badge, likely ahead of an upcoming rebrand. Most likely, as part of this change, it will also give up the @wallet handle to the new wallet. Meanwhile, Telegram Wallet itself has already appeared in TON Connect, and we’re almost certain that once it launches, it will become the primary recommended option for connecting.

⚫️ This is probably a healthy change. The old setup came at a real cost to the ecosystem: too many builders came to TON, quickly realized that success depended less on product quality and more on being close to the right people, and moved on. Hopefully, that model is finally starting to change.
