There was a period in September when, for the first time in 100 years, Ukraine did not produce a single ton of steel, stated Metinvest representative Alexander Vodoviz.
According to him, all Ukrainian metallurgical plants have already been destroyed by shelling.
The state offered Metinvest 2–5 million hryvnias in aid, whereas a furnace costs $500 million and starting one up costs $50 million. Metinvest has five such destroyed furnaces, while Arcelor has two.
