🤖 Microsoft has temporarily disabled Ask Copilot, its Windows 11 taskbar feature that replaced the Windows Search box with a Copilot powered experience. The company said it wants to update the feature and incorporate user feedback as it moves toward a unified Copilot app.

Ask Copilot first appeared in preview for a small group of users, mostly Microsoft 365 Copilot customers, with a consumer version also in development. Microsoft later removed consumer support, and the feature now works only with the Microsoft 365 Copilot app.

With the latest app updates, Ask Copilot disappears and Windows restores the standard Search experience automatically. Microsoft keeps Windows Search and Ask Copilot separate, with different teams building each one. Windows Search remains the main search tool in Windows 11, and Microsoft continues to simplify it by reducing clutter and ads while improving speed and accuracy.

Ask Copilot also offered chat and Copilot Vision shortcuts, but it is not shipping yet.
